About the Position:
John Day Lock and Dam Project is 216 miles upriver from the mouth of the Columbia, spanning the river near the city of Rufus,
Oregon and Goldendale, Washington. Construction of John Day Lock and Dam was completed in 1971. The authorized primary project purposes are navigation and power generation. The project consists of a navigation lock, spillway, powerhouse and fish passage facilities. Various recreational facilities are provided along Lake Umatilla and the John Day River to include hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating, and other water sports.

At the full performance level, you will serve as a Mechanical Engineer with the John Day Lock and Dam. In this capacity, you will provide mechanical engineering expertise on the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment for this multi-purpose hydroelectric power facility. This experience includes conducting analytical investigations to determine the cause of mechanical problems. You will serve as the Maintenance/Reliability Engineer to ensure proper care and operation of equipment. Your responsibilities will include documenting work and equipment histories through the preparation of technical engineering reports and correspondence, covering inspections, maintenance, tests, operational analysis, and work performed on mechanical equipment. In addition, you may be required to perform contract administration and quality assurance duties.

Experience required:
To qualify at the GS-11 level based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This experience is defined providing technical assistance to supervisor and craft foremen in the selection of materials, field repairs/fabrication/modification, or replacement of entire part with commercial equipment in an industrial plant. This experience also includes troubleshooting mechanical problems on industrial equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
To qualify at the GS-12 level based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This experience is defined as performing quality assurance, conducting analytical investigations into the root cause of mechanical problems with industrial equipment. This experience also includes providing technical assistance to supervisor and craft foremen in the selection of materials for field repairs, fabrication/modification, or replacement of entire part for industrial equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).

For this job, at the GS-12 level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. At the GS-11 level, you may be able to substitute education for experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
